What to do in an emergency

Emergency Care

We know your pet can become ill or suffer accidents at any time. To make sure you have access to high quality care at night, weekends and bank holidays, we have chosen to partner with Vets Now, the leading provider of out of hours care.

The team at Vets Now are always there when we are closed, so you can rest assured that you and your pet will have a vet and nurse on hand, whether it’s four in the morning or half-way through Christmas. Their fully qualified staff will provide free advice over the phone and advise whether you need to take your pet into their clinic for immediate treatment. Please don’t hesitate to call them if you’re at all concerned.

By using a specialist service to cover our out of hours emergencies, our vets and nurses get a good night’s rest so we can continue providing the high quality medical care that we pride ourselves on here at Provost Vet Group.

Vets Now take over from us when we close in the evenings including at the weekend. If you phone us when the surgery is closed there will be an answerphone message with the out of hours contact details.

Please be aware that an out of hours appointment will continue to be more expensive than seeing a vet during usual hours. Vets Now will discuss this with you at the time of appointment and before commencing any treatment.

Please note we are partnered with Vets Now in Dundee and in Kirkcaldy. Find each of their details below.

What to do

Out-of-Hours Emergency Service call Vets Now on the relevant number.

Firstly – Don’t Panic.

Visit our common emergencies page under the Emergencies tab above for our guidance on common pet emergencies. If you feel you need to contact the vet, please phone your usual clinic. Even during normal working hours, you will be seen more quickly if you phone us before setting off to the clinic as there is not always a vet available to see your animal immediately! Please bear in mind that our out-of-hours service is provided by the same team of vets that work during the day – hence they may well be asleep if you call during the small hours!

Please try and remain composed when on the phone. The important bits of information are your name, your pet’s name and your location. Sensible detail about what has occurred is useful in helping the vet decide whether the expense of an immediate emergency attendance is required, or whether the condition may sensibly be left until the clinics are open again for routine work. We have routine clinics every weekday and on Saturdays between 8:30am - 5:30pm. We are open all bank holidays except for two days at Christmas and two days at New Year. Emergencies will be seen at all times.

For our emergency service outside the normal opening hours please telephone Vets Now Kirkcaldy on 01592 328336 or Vets Now Dundee on 01382 690723.
