Pet Passports
We are fully authorised by SEERAD (the Scottish equivalent of DEFRA) to issue and update Pet Passports allowing dogs and cats to travel freely within the European Union, as well as certain other European and Worldwide countries.

New regulations for eligibility for pets entering or returning to the UK make the process significantly more relaxed, meaning animals can travel within 3 weeks.

Dogs and Cats currently in the UK who are going to travel abroad with the intention of re-entering the UK need:
  • microchip - this can be done at the same time as the next step.
  • vaccination against rabies.  A single injection is all that will be required.
  • They will then be issued with a Pet Passport which will be valid for travel to the UK from 3 weeks after the date of vaccination.
  • Between 1 and 5 days before entry to the UK they be need to be treated with an approved tape-worm medication, this to be carried out by an appropriately qualified vet, and will need to be certified into the passport.
  • All animals must enter into the UK with authorised carriers and on authorised routes.  Please contact the ferry operator/airline to discuss the details as these vary for each carrier.
For more complete information about travelling with your pet, the regulations and the health risks to cats and dogs in certain European countries, please click here to download a pdf file.

Please see the DEFRA website for full details about the regulations.
The Rabies vaccine we use gives 3 years protection against rabies, so booster vaccinations are only required within 3 years of last vaccination.  We regret we are unable to guarantee to ensure your passport is kept up to date - it is the owners responsibility to ensure all regulations associated with the Pet Travel Scheme are complied with.
